Can your business even choose its electricity supplier?
Not every Texas business can shop for electricity. It depends on who owns the poles and wires at your address.

Who gets to choose
In most of the big Texas metros, including Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and Corpus Christi, businesses can pick their supplier. That's retail choice.
But if your power comes from a city-owned utility or most electric co-ops, you usually don't get to choose. Austin and San Antonio are the big examples.
Some counties are split, so the business down the road might be in a different situation than you.
The quick way to tell
- Grab your latest bill.
- Find the name of your delivery company, the utility that owns the lines. In choice areas it's usually Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP or Lubbock Power & Light.
- If your bill comes straight from the city or a co-op, call them and ask whether they offer choice.
Got more than one location?
Check each address. They don't all have to match.
Want a hand?
If you're in a choice area and want someone to read the bill with you, send it over. Your bill. Your usage. Your price.
There's no cost to you. The supplier pays me, and it's built into the rate.
Not cute. Correct.
